Building Healthy Communities Through a Strong Workforce

Workforce

The Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers (the Alliance) supports our Community Health Centers (CHCs) with recruitment and retention of providers and staff. We connect CHCs with special programs and resources that support staffing and operations. We facilitate pipeline programs, including matching students with CHCs, with a focus on expanding our primary care workforce.

To build healthy communities through a strong workforce, we:

  • Partner with academic institutions, CHCs, and other healthcare organizations on health professions education and training initiatives
  • Place primary care students and residents in rotations at CHCs to experience care delivery in diverse, rural, and underserved communities
  • Partner with the Arizona Department of Health Services Primary Care Office, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders to provide our CHCs with training and technical assistance on effective recruitment and retention strategies
  • Support CHC leadership staff development through training focused on relationship building, effective communication, and teamwork
  • Collaborate with the Arizona Department of Health Services Primary Care Office to facilitate training and education on loan repayment and scholarship programs including the Arizona State Loan Repayment Program, the National Health Service Corps Program, and the Nurse Corps Program

The Alliance is one of six sub-recipients of the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) grant in Arizona. The Central Arizona AHEC (CAAHEC) serves Maricopa, West Pinal, and Southern Yavapai Counties. The purpose of the AHEC program is to enhance access to healthcare services by improving the supply, diversity, and distribution of our healthcare workforce with emphasis on addressing the healthcare needs of rural and underserved populations and communities. CAAHEC also supports healthcare professionals in delivering quality healthcare and transforming practice through interprofessional and continuing education.
